Tsuru (Crane) Tea Bowl - Kyoto Ninsei Style

‘Tsuru’ means crane, a symbol of celebration and good fortune in Japan. This premium ‘chawan’ (tea bowl) is ideal as a unique present for a wedding, a celebration or to welcome in the new year.

Considered a national treasure, the crane is believed to live for 1000 years, and has thus has also come to represent longevity, peace and loyalty.

This is a Ninsei style tea bowl.

Ninsei (仁清) was a Japanese potter, who lived in the Edo Period, roughly between the 1640s to the 1690s. He is often credited as one of the key founders and influencers of 'Kyō ware', a type of Japanese pottery traditionally from Kyoto. He perfected colourful painted pottery.
